The rising demand for poultry chicks has opened profitable avenues for unemployed youth, especially in rural areas. Many young individuals are now engaged in poultry farming and allied activities, including the sale of poultry feed and the provision of logistics and farm-management services. Since 2017–18, our organization has distributed 5,800 chicks to 58 youths, enabling each participant to initially earn Rs. 15,000–16,000 every two months, with annual incomes growing to Rs. 90,000–96,000 or more. The initiative has since expanded significantly, benefiting 1,425 youths across 12 districts of West Bengal. Plans are underway to scale this further to all districts, targeting 100 or more youths per district, each receiving 1,000 chicks per cycle, thereby creating a robust and sustainable livelihood ecosystem.
